URBAN GREENERY – NATURAL RICHNESS OF A CITY
V Technical-Scientific Conference
GREEN AREAS IN PUBLIC URBAN SPACE: FUNCTION, CREATION, IDENTIFICATION

Toruń, 21-23 October 2009

under the auspices of
Mayor of the City of Toruń Michał Zaleski

The issue of conscious shaping and arranging of public space is more and more often a subject of discussions among architects, landscape architects and environmental psychologists. It is reflected, among others, in rankings of best urban spaces, that promote the issue and increase the awareness of the advantages a well-arranged shared space gives.
So, what seems to gain importance now, is focusing on one of elements of public space, that has been usually put on the margin of discussions about the wide issue of urban studies and space shaping. We are talking about green areas. What is really their function? What factors influence their arrangement? Can they be treated as a component of space, that identifies and determines its character? Can they influence the manner of usage of the space and to what extent? Such important questions, and answers are presented on another conference in Toruń, devoted to this topic. We hope that the proposed subject will be interesting for specialists from many scientific fields, and our October meeting will result in fruitful discussions. We encourage you to send your applications!
